joan + joy

This was a special session that Joan’s friend got for her as a gift. Joan and Joy, her Black Lab, have been together for many years. Joy is her rock, her best friend, and has saved Joan’s life on more than one occasion. Joy is a Service Dog. She lets Joan know when her blood sugar is low and when she’s about to have a seizure. She places herself under Joan to break her fall, stands firm to help her up, and stays by her side day and night.

I came into this session knowing that Joan is on Hospice, and doesn’t have much time left. I had no idea I would be meeting such a vibrant, funny, happy woman. She was so blessed having Joy come into her life, and her eyes lit up with every story she told of her. She told me that Joy was her gift from God, and taking these photos gave her something wonderful to look forward to. Their bond is palpable, and it’s easy to see that both of them are very loved. I could have stayed and talked for hours.

Joan helped bring me back down from the crazy, hectic schedule I’ve had these past months, and reminded me that what I do has real value. Not value in a monetary sense, but value in creating lasting memories for people like Joan and her family and friends. It was an honor to meet you, Joan. I hope that you and Joy find each other again some day.

These three lovely ladies got to have a Location Session AND a Studio Session! Luckies. They’re so shiny, the sun and lights were great off their awesome black coats. They LOVE their frisbee and we got alot of great shots with it. You’ll have to forgive me not remembering who’s who in most of these photos

She’s so happy, I love it.

Then it was off to the studio for the rest of the session!

lulu + oliver + axel {ollu}

I have to start this by saying this was totally one of my favorite shoots ever. 3 dogs is such a fun challenge, and we got alot of great variety. Their mom is opening an upscale, indoor dog wash facility in St. Anthony Main called “Ollu” after her two black labs Lulu and Oliver. They’re litter mates, and you can totally tell. Same markings, same demeanor, and Lulu is definitely feminine while Oliver looks more manly. Axel is new to the family….he was just rescued a couple months ago and fits in wonderfully. This session was primarily to get some shots of the labs with their mom for marketing purposes, but I have to admit, Axel stole the show! Danes have a soft spot in my heart, and I just couldn’t get enough of him.

This first image is now one of my all time favorites. L.O.V.E. his legs.

But here’s who the shoot was really about. Lulu on the left with the purple collar, Oliver on the right.

I can’t wait to bring Gracie in to test out the dog baths! The store is projected to open mid-October. You can bet I’ll keep you updated

brody {hearing and service dog}

This handsome young man is Brody. He’s growing up with a wonderful family, and will soon be on his way to formal training as a service dog for Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota.
