benson + mischief

Mischief is a very pretty Beagle who recently got a new baby brother: Benson the French Bulldog! They both enjoy daycare at Pampered Pooch and getting pets for being cute. Little Benson is so stinkin’ adorable, and Mischief has got some moves…. I definitely had a blast with these two in the studio!

January 13, 2010 - 1:49 am stacey - that french bulldog looks so incredibly soft. "what is that, velvet?" maybe!

December 29, 2009 - 6:32 pm beth - oh my goodness I want them both! I love the white on white!

December 29, 2009 - 9:45 am Stephanie - First ~ Your pictures are amazing. Two ~ I want to take Benson home with me! O.M.G. Cuteness

December 28, 2009 - 11:54 pm Johanna - French Bulldogs should be illegal. Too much cuteness.

December 28, 2009 - 10:17 pm Emilee - Good grief, can I please have that little Frenchie? He's beyond adorable! :)

December 28, 2009 - 10:11 pm Laura Ivanova - These images are amazing Sarah! This may be one of my favorites sessions from you. Not only are the dogs super adorable, but I think these neutral backgrounds suit them well. Just beautiful!

December 28, 2009 - 9:32 pm Keith - Love the pictures!!! They look so cute!

isaac {minneapolis newborn photography}

I was lucky enough to get two newborn sessions in a row! The boys (Isaac here, and Gavin from the post on the 23rd) were born within days of each other, their moms have the same first name, and both contacted me on the same day. Crazy. This handsome guy was only 4 days old when we had our session. Welcome to the world, Isaac!

Isaac’s dad had an image from when he was a baby, sleeping with his hand up by his face… we were pretty excited to get this matching shot, with just a hint of a smile.

December 30, 2009 - 10:12 pm ME - Too adorable. This one needs to be entered into some contest somewhere!

christmastime is here

Minnesota just got a pretty substantial snowfall and we weren’t able to make it up to my mom’s for Christmas. This was the first time Dustin and I have had our own Christmas, no family, and it was pretty fun! We did a bit of shoveling, had lasagna and cookies, and spent the day watching episodes of Dr. Who. When it was time to move our cars for the plows, I grabbed the camera to try and capture the beautiful night…. it’s fairly warm out, just below freezing, and the snow is good and sticky {snowball good, but not snowman good….. believe me, I tried}

December 30, 2009 - 9:08 pm Gina - I absolutely LOVE these so much. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

December 28, 2009 - 11:30 pm Kimberly - These are fantastic. These are my favorite of your group. I would frame these. I can't wait for my 2010 snow pics. Great job, as always, Sarah!

December 25, 2009 - 3:16 pm Meredith Perdue - Love the snow shots, Sarah! Happy holidays!

gavin {minneapolis newborn photography}

Christmas came early for Gavin’s family! This handsome little peanut was born on December 8th, and he did a great job at our session!

December 25, 2009 - 3:41 pm Meredith Perdue - Oh, my! How cute is Gavin as Santa? Great pictures!

December 24, 2009 - 12:28 am Annie - awww I love newborns. Photographing them can be rough. I do that for my job and with 2 - 3 day old babies a lot of them squirm and cry lots. Great work!

bob {marley}

Bob is the snuggliest, muppet-y-est, big bundle of puppy I’ve ever met. He’s also the first Puli I’ve seen in real life! He was so sweet and such a good boy, but his amazing amount of black black black fur made for a challenging session. He soaks up so much light, the only paper that worked well was black. BUT I’m super excited to give him another go in an location session! Hopefully get those dreds flowing in the wind….

Yes, he does have eyeballs…. can you find them?? :)

December 22, 2009 - 10:55 am Stacey - Isn't he just the cutest, most fluffy dog ever! Did he have a professional fur stylist for the shoot or are those strands just standing perfectly on their own on top of his head? Great shots!

December 22, 2009 - 8:23 am april ziegler - So funny, I was just watching a show about Pulis last night. He is awesome! Love him against the black... fabulous shots Sarah!

December 21, 2009 - 9:53 pm leesia - what a total cutie pie!!

December 21, 2009 - 9:23 pm Emilee - Oh my word, it's a muppet! Gah!

December 21, 2009 - 9:19 pm nick - haha its a rasta doggy indeed. Gotta love the touch of red on him too.

duke + ruby {black and tan coonhounds}

Duke and Ruby were a total blast in the studio! These two have very expressive faces that go from stoic to happy to ridiculous in seconds. This will be a long post…. there were just so many good ones! This first one is Ruby.

December 22, 2009 - 10:59 am Stacey - The pink scarf is delicious, but those last two shots together are pure perfection! That one on black is the kind of photo all doggy owners hope for!

joan + joy

This was a special session that Joan’s friend got for her as a gift. Joan and Joy, her  Black Lab, have been together for many years. Joy is her rock, her best friend, and has saved Joan’s life on more than one occasion. Joy is a Service Dog. She lets Joan know when her blood sugar is low and when she’s about to have a seizure. She places herself under Joan to break her fall, stands firm to help her up, and stays by her side day and night.

I came into this session knowing that Joan is on Hospice, and doesn’t have much time left. I had no idea I would be meeting such a vibrant, funny, happy woman. She was so blessed having Joy come into her life, and her eyes lit up with every story she told of her. She told me that Joy was her gift from God, and taking these photos gave her something wonderful to look forward to. Their bond is palpable, and it’s easy to see that both of them are very loved. I could have stayed and talked for hours.

Joan helped bring me back down from the crazy, hectic schedule I’ve had these past months, and reminded me that what I do has real value. Not value in a monetary sense, but value in creating lasting memories for people like Joan and her family and friends. It was an honor to meet you, Joan. I hope that you and Joy find each other again some day.

December 21, 2009 - 9:22 pm Emilee - How special that you were able to capture this bond. Not only were you blessed to meet Joan, but I know she was blessed to meet you and have you capture her and Joy. So hard not to cry reading this post and looking at your wonderful photos. God bless you, Joan and Joy!

December 21, 2009 - 9:05 pm Terrah - The middle photo is so incredibly touching. You caught a "moment" that will last forever.

December 17, 2009 - 8:56 pm Kyle Tunney - Gorgeous photo. Such rich colours and I LOVE the bokeh on her face!!

patrick | minneapolis horse photographer

Not only does Jennifer have some great dogs, she has a gorgeous horse named Patrick. We headed out to his boarding facility just in time for some amazing afternoon wintery sun. I soooo love photographing horses. They have a quiet dignity about them, and a spirit that takes me back to when I was kid with horses of my own. Plus, it’s good to mix it up with different species, so I don’t get in a creative rut with all the great dogs! Nice meeting you, Patrick. I hope your mom loves your photos!
